I’m a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas with a BA in Arts and Technology, or ATEC. Not a lot of people have heard of this degree outside of UTD, but generally speaking it’s a degree catering to students who want to learn technology aided art, like 3D modeling, texturing, game development, or in my case sound design. After receiving my undergraduate degree, I spent about three years doing web design and programming before going back to UTD for my MFA, again in Arts and Technology. While there I was hired on to work with some very talented people on a grant project for the U.S. Army as well as a separate project for Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. Both of these projects were built using modified version of the Unreal Engine. I worked as the lead sound designer on both projects before being asked to help as an instructor for the introductory sound design class offered by the ATEC program.
I also have had the pleasure of being an audio intern at Gearbox Software, where I was able to work on titles such as Borderlands 2 and its DLC.
